What happens in an initial consultation for hypnotherapy?
The initial consultation is the most important session and take about an hour. The first part of the initial consultation consists of information gathering. We establish how you want me to help you and what you want to achieve. I also gather Information about ways in which your issue affects you and what you are hoping for. After that, I will explain to you how the brain works, how this is relevant to your situation and how I can help you with solution focused hypnotherapy/sleep therapy or gut directed hypnotherapy or other techniques as appropriate for your issue. I will use this session to design a treatment plan for you that will help you achieve your goals.
This session is the most important session as insights are gained into how the brain works and how that may be affecting you. We will have a common understanding on how the techniques I used will work and will be used to help you. I will also provide you some tools so you can get started straight away before our next session.
What issues can clinical hypnotherapy work with?

How many hypnotherapy sessions do I need?
Solution focused hypnotherapy works very quickly compared to a lot of talking therapies. Most clients need around 6-8 sessions but it's up to you. You will let me know when you want to finish and there is never any pressure to continue beyond what you think is useful. Tackling specific fears and phobias may need fewer. You will decide when you have a reached your goals so you have as many sessions as you feel you need. You decide from session to session if you would like to continue and there is never any pressure to return if you feel you are finished. Just let me know when you are having your last session so I can round things up with you and make sure you have everything you need.
What happens in an online hypnotherapy session?
Online sessions work much like face-to-face sessions, but you join from wherever suits you best. You just need a computer or tablet, a stable internet connection and a private space where you can relax. I send you a secure video link that only you can access. I work with clients in the UK and internationally, and many people find online hypnotherapy just as effective and much more convenient.
What is trance or hypnosis?
Trance is a very ordinary state that we enter many times a day, such as when driving or watching television. In hypnotherapy, trance is a focused state of awareness used to achieve specific goals. It occurs when two minds focus on the same thing, allowing access to the subconscious mind, which is open to developing solutions. Trance is very safe, and you cannot be harmed if it is interrupted. You are in control during trance and will only accept suggestions that your subconscious mind agrees with. I cannot make you do anything against your will or values.
Is hypnotherapy a complementary therapy?
Yes, hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy. This means it can be used alongside any other therapy or medication that you are using or may use in the course of hypnotherapy. Many of my clients are using medication prescribed by their medical team and may also be using other therapies such as physiotherapy at the same time as seeing me.
